Day 71

On Monday Dr. Khouri will start me on a five week regimen that includes Rituxin and an infusion of lymphocytes (white blood cells) from the donor. We'll start with Rituxin this Monday and get infusions of either Rituxin or lymphocytes every Monday for five weeks. It will go Rituxin, Rituxin, Donor Lymphocyte Infusion (DLI - everything has an abbreviation here), Rituxin, Rituxin for the five weeks. I'm thinking that he will allow me to get the Rituxin in Atlanta at least for the last two infusions. The DLI will fall the week after Thanksgiving depending on the donor's schedule.

All of this is to boost the effects of the transplant. As previously discussed, the lymph nodes have not gone all the way down and the white blood count has been weak. The Rituxin will attack the CLL cells in the lymph nodes and the donor lymphocytes will provide "reinforcements" for the new system to attack the disease.

We may do this five week process several times. If so I will be making short trips back to Houston through the winter.

Changing subjects, go Jackets!. Tech should beat UNC today. But if we don't, all we have to do is beat Duke next week to be in the ACC championship game.

Poor Wake Forest is having their best season ever and they are still underdogs in tonight's game in Tallahassee. Beat FSU and they might get some respect.

Maryland should beat Miami, given the ongoing saga in Miami. And Boston College will cream Duke, so that division will still be a three way race.

Auburn will beat Georgia in Auburn, although the visiting team usually wins this one - just not this year.

Have a good weekend.

I will talk to you by phone BUT

What about them HOGS??? You know we have to beat TN (big orange) today. TN has some players out for misconduct so we should have a little help there. Last week's quarter back should be ready to go. So GO HOGS!!

Hey Max,
What about the Texas game? No comments or predictions?
I do believe that if your current job ever falls through that you could start right away at the news desk as the sports announcer/caster! Don't laugh, it's a thought!

Richt and the Dawgs forgot to read your comments -

Go Deacs - I am beginning to think they just might make it to the Tech party, but a lot of good things have to happen. Maryland is 5/1 in the conference by a net scoring margin of 9 points. Teams that consistently do what they have to do to win are always dangerous.

Keep the predictions coming - I am reminded of the economist who said, "If you make forcasts, remember to do it often - give a number or a time, but never both."

Take care and continue to make progress.

Hey Turkey,

So who do you want to play for the ACC Championship? Wake Forest was pretty good againt FSU -- but then it was FSU. Can you believe saying that for a season of football? Just the same, the Jackets know Ralph and the Turtles. But Ralph and the Turtles know them, too. Tough choice.

Be well.

Charlie and Randy,
I don't think I want to see Tech play Wake. But then again I don't like our prospects for beating MD twice. And I don't really like the idea of playing BC either, but if they let me pick I'll take BC. Chan hasn't called to ask my opinion in a long long time, though.

Now if Tech could just stop playing like a high school team. They played like they did against Clemson. Luckily we were playing UNC. I guess we are just setting ourselves up to be the underdog no matter who we play.

If I had to pick who will represent the ACC in the Orange Bowl, I would pick Wake. Unfortunately that likely puts Tech in the Peach Bowl where we have traditionally put forth very little effort.

You know Charles and I have to post a Go DAWGS --- wishing you well --- I really hope you don't plan to start making extra money with those football predictions.

Hey Max, I think that your first post on your blog was on August 13 and now it's Nov. 13th...you've come a long way baby!!!
Congrats! I am also praying for a little boy who is 5 years old and had a stem cell transplant and is doing well...God is Good! All the Time!!!
What a weekend for football...I think that everyone was happy to stay inside and watch a lot of fall football. Walton goes to the first rounds of the state play-offs but since we lost to Wheeler Friday night, we don't have home field advantage. Must travel to Norcross on Friday- bummer.
Hope you are in Marietta for the Super Bowl cause we are going to have a "Souper Bowl" party where everyone brings a pot of their favorite soup! Get it!?!
Who is going to play in the Super Bowl this year? Predictions from the sports Maxer?
Rest easy,
Cathy

Dad, I think Chan quit asking your opinion after all those nasty messages you left him when he started, lol! I can't believe Tech barely beat UNC. I can't believe UGA beat Auburn and that Auburn played SO badly. UGA needed that confidence boost! It will be a good Thanksgiving game between UGA and Tech.

And I don't even want to talk about FSU being shut out at home by Wake. How embarrassing. Time for Jeff to get the axe.

Must get the cable sports package next season - 2 ESPNs are just not enough!

Can't wait for you to come home - we can watch the bowl games together!

Hey Max,
Hop you get home for Thanksgiving. The jackets have had a great football season so far, but wait till you the basketball boys. They look really great and could go along way. The 3 starting freshmen look like upperclassmen. Jim & Denisem
